Patio refresh

It’s basically just very strong bleach so dilute and use down the drain if you don’t want it around.

Protection - don’t underestimate. Heavy rubber gloves aren’t expensive. I’ve got industrial ones but actually find the Tesco heavy duty black rubber ones a better fit and more flexible.
Eye protections is a must. Very old clothes, preferable waterproofs.

Its really quite nasty if you’re not careful. I was using a new backpack sprayer a few months back. And my own fault had not tightened the outlet fully. Hypo soaked through my clothes and burnt all my back by the time I felt it wet, and that was at 30%

Ouch!! That does not sounds nice at all. Thanks for sharing your lessons with me.

I've got the goggles ordered. I'll get some proper gloves to go with.

I'm going with the watering can (assuming it won't eat thru it) so plan to take it slow and steady.

I appreciate all the advice!

watering can will be fine and safer. Incidentally if you get a sprayer it will eat the rubber seals unless they’re viton.

Hi. So I thought I'd show you the 'finished' result. As you can see the HS did a great job cleaning the slabs. I was actually expecting to find grey slabs and not sandstone but happy enough with that.

I'm a little disappointed with the quality of the slabs that have been left behind. Looks like someone did a bit of a bodge job repointing them at some stage in the past. I do think with some repointing it would look a lot better so that'll probably be the next phase of the project.

Anyway, thanks again for the advice! I definitely wouldn't have got it looking like this with just the pressure washer! And I didn't melt my skin off either so success all around!

Very nice result!

The remaining black spot should disappear with a longer soak or neat hypo.

Not sure what they ‘repaired’ the pointing with. Doesn’t look like anything cement based but if you want to try some brick acid on it you’ll soon find out. Clean that off and have the pointing out and re-do it and it’ll look like new.

Pretty sure they’re not sandstone. Although you can get sawn slabs it’s unusual to see them that uniform and the colour would normally vary more. They look like a concrete / composite slab to me. Difficult to tell with photos but I’d be reasonably certain.

They seem nice and flat though so a very nice space.

I’m not normally a fan of the resin pointing systems but that would lend itself really well to getting it totally spotless and then using a cream grout / pointing to make it look more like a single surface. Give it a very contemporary feel for little money.
