I need to reboard a ceiling. I am going to put new boards over the old ones. Is it possible to screw the new ones to the old ones without being too fussy about hitting the joists? Would that be secure enough to just use suitable p/board screws to secure to the boards to the other boards? I ripped down the one in the kitchen and did it properly onto the joists, so I dont fancy plaster bogies again.
In a word, No. You need to screw in to something solid. So get your self some screws long enough to go through both board and in to the joist. But make sure that they aren't too long that they could screw in to a cable that could be running through a hole in the joist.
will do. Sorry about the name but it comes from a time when I was in my teens and would get very very drunk and run about doing stunts in the nip - way before ******* or Dirty Sanchez or any of those guys were doing it.
