Pop up Gazebos

Discussion in 'Kitchen Fitters' Talk' started by Hudson's Joinery, Mar 20, 2014.

  1. Thinking about investing in a 3m x 3m pop up gazebo for working under in bad weather a industrial one not a cheap one. Dose any one else use one and is it a good idea

I've been tempted in the past, I didn't in the end mainly because I struggled to think of many jobs I've been on that there has actually been enough space to set a decent sized one up, good if most jobs have reasonable driveways or gardens, but I do a lot where they have no drive and small gardens etc or are in flats.

Don't buy one with plastic hinges/clips like the one halfords do at around £60.00, I had one that lasted a whole day, when the wind blew under it it twisted and broke the hinges/clips, got my money back no problems.

A builder friend of mine has one and swears by it. He sets up a tool bench or saw stand (depending what sort of job he's doing) sometimes just places a couple of 8 by 4 sheets of osb on the ground to provide a stable base for the stand etc. He also has a tarp he uses for 3 sides (keeps the rain out when it's blowing a bit.

  5. my main work is kitchens which is a lot of cutting out side and when weather is bad its stop job and wait most sites I go on have space to put up a 3x3 just truing to work out the longevity of paying of £600 for one of these oh plus its and big advertising banner too and you can have it sign written lol

You can spend a lot of money on these but I buy the Argos cheapies for around £60 including 3 sides and they last 2 or3 years and then you throw them away. Is one 10 times more expensive going to pay for itself.
If you are going to be using one day after day to make money buy an expensive one that will last but other wise..

I have a 3m square gazebo. I bought it from an eBay store that specialises in market stalls. Went for their cheaper option that cost about £170. I have had it about three years and it is beginning to look a bit battered but it did survive through the big storms around Christmas & New Year though with lots of extra tie downs and screws down into a wooden deck that was my work area. Takes a while to set up (and a load of van space) so I try not to use it too often but when doing a kitchen or replacing internal doors it makes an excellent work/storage space. Have also used it in a brief hot summer spell to provide shelter.

I'd say it has paid for itself many times over by making it possible to work in poor weather without doing the dusty cutting inside the customer's house (all my work is for domestic customers).

If you work on your own its a tricky to set up and take down. If you have help it's quick and easy
