Not quite sure how they do it without the post code seens as its the firt screen you can not bypass unless they put it under there own personal post code. Its a stupid system that is only designed for mail order hence why you need the postcode. One day they will get a real EPOS system and the days of postcodes will be gone. AMEN
"Its a stupid system that is only designed for mail order hence why you need the postcode." Wrong. It's a system designed for TRADE. The reason Screwfix take your postcode is to enable them to print a VAT invoice for each customer. Screwfix is not a shop, it's a trade counter. The majority of tradesmen require VAT invoices, therefore it makes sense to design a system around that.
they are on their system idiot. omfg. screwfix dont employ psychics who know all your details by looking at u. they have to ask you for details so they know who you are. if you prefer they could probably ask for you 28 digit account no? didnt think so. * [Edited by: admin]
I don't have to recite name rank and number every bloomin' time I go into my local merchant do I? So why can't SFTC get it right?
Ok this aint rocket science. post codes and surname are used to make sure your order is put under the right account as im sure has been said previously. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU ONLY HAVE TO GIVE YOUR DETAILS ONCE TO SET UP AN ACCOUNT - FROM THEN ON IN YOU JUST USE YOUR CUSTOMER NUMBER - OMFG - HOW HARD CAN IT BE. Lol sometimes im just amazed at the inability of people to think before they post
agreed. cos have a local plumbers merchants have a customer database the same size as screwfix right? no they bloody dont!! imagine being called john smith and trying to find a customer called john smith on the screwfix database! there are probably hundreds. postcodes and names get you directly to your account in minimum time. you'd think these pr**ks would be grateful as to how easy it is!
but does no one actually notice that you always have to give you postcode out for something. you buy anything in currys/pc world. you give your address. refunds. most places want your details . refund fraud springs to mind! still happenss but who wants things refunded back in their name to allow some to pocket illegal money?????? had it done no joke
You don't HAVE to give your postcode to anyone, just refuse if you don't want this unnecessary invasion of privacy. I do
Screwfix was set up originally as a website, as with 95% of websites you shop with you need ot make an account (it's just how it works). Screwfix then decided to open up a phoneline, as so evented away that accounts could be accesed by a person (i.e taking a couple of details that finds your account. It is simply looking for your account on its database. When they opened teh trade counters teh accounts are searched in teh same way. The till operative should offer you a card with your customer number on it should you not posses one at the time. This means you will no longer have to shout out your details. You have the option to select no mailings, and even if you dont select it.. all they ever send you now is money off vouchers. Whats the big problem these days, worlds got something to hide all of a sudden?
