Hi has anyone got one of these please? http://www.screwfix.com/p/titan-hss-drill-bit-sharpener-230v/1566h?_requestid=246555 Took delivery today after reading very good reviews. I eagerly grabbed a handful of old drills and scuttled off to the workshop with expectations of lovely sharp & shiny bits, put one in turned on and the motor runs but barely touches the bit and no nice grindy noises at all! Fiddled with the stone height only got a noise of grinding (without a bit in) when I assume I wound it up too far. On the odd occasion it seems to touch the bit it seems to be sharpening at a different angle to the original tip. Any tips on where I might be going wrong of have I got a duff one? My only option I can think of now is to have a sulk with a cold bottle of Doom Bar clenched in my hand and see if it works tomorrow after any suggestions on here!
Never used one of those,I use a jig with my bench, or wet grinder to sharpen drill bits. Look at the feedback, others have had the same problems. And it's identical to the Clarke model. https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-cbs16-electric-drill-bit-sharpener/
Not quite, one got full 5 feedback the others hasn't Also the Titan is 20 watts Clarke's is 70 watts according to the adds.
Titan is 70w, our host has it wrong. http://www.titantoolreviews.co.uk/product/titan-hss-drill-bit-sharpener-230v/
Yes I saw it looks the same as the Clarke also branded Siverline and Chicago, I went with the Titan as it had a separate add on module for a wider range of sizes. Looks like it will be going back then.
Well that's gone back, fair dues to Screwfix no problem with a refund. I decided not to exchange with my luck it will be one of a duff batch!! Now open to suggestions for a sharpener that is SIMPLE to use. I had one before but setting it up was a real fiddle for each drill! I just want to touch up a drill from time to time not launch the space shuttle!
If you only want to touch up (ooooo vicar) drills what about something simple like this. https://www.cromwell.co.uk/shop/pow...dnPl1xJVvfgwvG2SNj3XWGs6z9Ua5ZC-yEaAjIf8P8HAQ
Thank you Phil and KAIB but I think that's the one I had, it was a faff to set it up and screw it to the bench each time. You also need to tape the drill trigger down or use a cable tie, my trusty old Wolf that had a lock on trigger died after decades of service last year sorry to say
Looks like I might have to treat myself to a belt grinder too! Aww shucks ain't that a shame. Seems not to be available any more, certainly not this side of the pond. I found one made by draper at £117.00 nooooo! Later found this https://www.amazon.co.uk/DRAPER-DRI...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=HQ9BQ8W6FW2DW7YQ6WP2 This also looks similar what do you think? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product...s2&creativeASIN=B00XGB5FZA&tag=hammerdrill-21
Still made, had mine 30 years or so, use mine with a tiger wet grinder, but I'm now looking at belt sanders, might be an option. https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/dga1-drill-grinding-attachment/
For heaven's sake. Nah. See, that's wrong. Wheel should be running same direction as angled-down drill bit. Not angled up. Wrong and dangerous as at opposite angles the wheel could grab the bit...kerbang!
