Help!Ideal Elan2. Pump is coming on in middle of night and other times (boiler not firing)when programmer not asking. Usualy lasts 15 mins. or so. Could it be a control board fault? I can't see any reference in manual to pump overrun.
    Doesn't agree with new baby!

Is the boiler in an unheated area?

Are you sure it is not just the boiler's pump anti-seize feature (if it has this feature, check the user manual). Many boilers have this feature to periodically run the pump for a while to prevent it from seizing if left for any length of time without the central heating on. Just a thought...

The boiler probably has a frost stat somewhere, boiler has an over-run stat but this only kicks in at the end of a heating cycle so unless faulty would not bring the pump on.

Thanks. I think that might be the problem(faulty overrun)do you know if its part of the board or a replaceable part?

    Its' an Elan 2 RS40 bal.flue.

    Rs40 dosn't have an over-run.

Problem is therefore a faulty electrical component.

start by checking the room and cylinder stats are working on and off.

Any Motorised valve where the microswitch is sticking.

Programmer could be passedits sellby date and need replacing.

And all that assumes there is no FROST STAT

    .

Was it new that caused the problem, could be duff or not wired correctly, is there a link that should be removed for example.

Is the pump wired at the boiler or programmer

Prog. is not that new. I did check with makers though in case there was an o/run built in & there isn't.Pump is wired back to Pgrmr.I can't understand how it could run without boiler firing (red light)
