   Could someone please advise me, two of my garden walls have been rendered in the past albeit badly and I would like to get them re-coated. The existing render has had numerous coats of paint over the years. Would it be ok just to scratch a key in the existing surface first or should I consider the use of expanded metal or similar.

   if render isnt looking good but is solid then scratch..... some exterior pva and render again... otherwise if its weak just chop it of.. and render from brick..
