    Hi all,

We have a boarded up fireplace and want to open it up and fit a surround but it will just be decorative, no stove/fire. There is what I understand to be a constructional hearth which is flush with the wooden floor (see attached image). Width 1190mm x depth to wall 480mm. Don't really know what can be done with it, its crumbled in places so either needs repairing but doesn't look great anyway or something new placed on top. Don't want a high hearth on top really, want to keep it low to the floor so is it possible to get a very thin hearth or cover to fit these dimensions? Perhaps a wooden board could be put on top and painted?

    Any advice would be appreciated.
