Replacing an electric hob

Hello. I want to replace this solid plate hob with a ceramic one. But there's not the prescribed 15mm of space between the oven and worktop - it's covered with a small wood panel that's started to fall down on one side.

Is it possible to replace this with a ceramic hob? And if so, do the sizes need to match exactly? The existing hob is 59 cm wide but the one I'd prefer to buy is 58cm. I've attached some pictures.

Thank you.

Cant advise about the space between the oven issue but I'm sure someone will know .....

However you need to refer to the hob specs and check the gap required between the hob and cooker below.
Also check the cut out required for the new hob - not so much the width of the actual hob. If that's the same as you have already or requires a bigger cut out the hob would at least fit that space.
