Am trying to replace 3 broken flush door bolts but am unable to remove them as the screws are very worn - they measure 8" by 1" whilst in the doors but really wanted to remove them to measure - anyone know where I can find some this size? I have searched on various websites and theu do not appear to be a very common size?

How much I can roughly expect to pay to get someone round to remove the old ones and fit the new ones please? In Central London & so far have been quoted £95 + VAT just to come round and do a quote (can then be used against cost of job if I use them). Many thanks!

I've never used them but you can get screw extractors that grip the old screw to help remove it, might be worth trying that. If it's a slot head screw, sometimes tapping the screwdriver with a hammer can help loosen the screw enough to let you get enough grip to remove it.
Failing that, I'd take the door off so that you can access the top & bottom of the door and gently prise at the bolts, this may help freeing the screw enough to let you grip them to remove them.

Dill the heads off the screws, obviously have to remove the door anyway to get to screw on bottom door edge

Once heads are drilled away (work up in drill bit sizes) can prise locks of
May then be able to unwind screw stub by gripping with pincers or cut off flush if it doesn't match up with new lock screw positions

If you don't fancy fitting new locks yourself, you may feel confident enough and have the necessary tools to try and remove old locks ?

Thanks both for your replies - I hadn't realised I would need to remove the doors to take the old bolts out - I thought I should be able to unscrew them and then slide them out, measure them, put them back whilst I try to source replacements before fixing the replacements in. The doors are about 7ft tall each so I won't be able to do that myself! But I guess if the screws need to be drilled off then I would need to have the new bolts before removing the old ones?

Can you recommend any places to get the replacements? I have been struggling to find ones the same dimensions - I should mention that the doors are on a listed building so I am not allowed to replace them.

    Many thanks!

Ok, I’m diy so not fitted hundreds of flush bolts but, the ones I have seen have a section that goes under bottom of door. Bolt passes through this section and also there’s a screw fixing which goes up into door

So basically the lock is an ‘L’ shape

Chance yours are different as there’s no one design standard but, if you do get screws out you can see, and bolt can’t be prised out, then it’s also secured from underneath (as I expect)

Google an image of Flush Bolt and you will see what I mean

Ironmongery Direct is one online supplier I’ve used before and they seem helpful and are open for business

Could try giving them a call
