Replacing kitchen sockets and cooker isolator.

Had the kitchen re-tiled and took off all the sockets and cooker isolator to make the tilers job easier.

The old ones were looking a bit tatty so I bought new sockets and isolator.

The terminals on the new isolator are positioned differently from the old ones and the cables are just a few mm short now...

Can I extend the cables (using the same gauge cable) with wagos to make the connection?
Have the same problem with one of the sockets too.

Yes,you can. The wago must be rated for correct amperage

I expect that the cables to the cooker switch will be 6mm2
I don’t think that Wago make a connector that big.

use insulated terminal block that is big enough for the job.

Thanks - I will extend the cables!
My next problem with it - and I have no idea how they ever did this - is that the wall is plasterboard and the back-boxes are normal metal type - but they are not fixed to anything!
So trying to get the screws back into them is almost impossible as they keep wiggling around - is there any way to solve this? There is a 100mm or so cavity behind the plasterboard - so threre is nothing to attach the back-boxes to.

unless it’s possible to secure them between the tiles and plasterboard?

I figures that if someone else had managed to screw them back together with the box loose then I would be able to do the same...
    (We tiled over existing tiles)

I can easily get 1 screw in but as I tighten it the box pivots and the other screw won't reach - maybe I can pull it into place with string etc till I get the screw to bite..

Try with longer screws it will just clamp together but dont look like you have a choice

With a piece of bent wire fish a bit of string in and out of two of the back fixing holes. Pull the box forward with the string either side of the socket front plate then pull the string out when the screws have some purchase.

Any suggestion is welcome if it helps avoid having to remove tiles and is safe :)

    Gripfil cures all building problems.

    And a bit of ingenuity.
