To ban this advert. Personally i think it should be aired and our Children should learn what we are doing to our planet for our own ends (greed).
What numb head banned it? A totally harmless advertisement. I heard on Radio 4 this morning that it was judged "too political", what nonsense. I agree with you ISR, everyone should know about what's going on and also the stupid notion that wood pulp from America to burn at Drax is enviro friendly.
I tell you what... We've been trying to avoid palm oil for this very reason for some time now. I didn't know about this until now... so I think Iceland is beckoning for at least some of our shopping now! Cando
Right or wrong? I think the consensus on here is that it's morally right - and i have no personal issue with that - but there are regs in place to control political advertising masquerading as something else, and it looks as tho' - for now at least - this ad has fallen foul of that reg. I understand the issue is that this 'commercial' ad is known to be supportive of a political organisation (Greenpeace), so breaches these rules.
Notice how I haven't mentioned the irony of B*****? The ex-EU UK will scrape any gawd-damned immoral barrel to get a trade deal with anybody should we Leave 'hard'. Palm oil? Is there money to be made?!!!! You couldn't make these threads up.
Allsorts said You couldn't make these threads up. But you do, don't you. As for things being banned, you should be banned from talking about Brexit on every bloody thread.
Blimey, Palm Oil is political... https://unearthed.greenpeace.org/2018/05/08/palm-oil-eu-uk-defence-malaysia-bae-systems/ You don't want to upset the Malaysians. Bludy EU trying to ban Palm Oil and upsetting BAE. Just wait until we are FREE! Is this what the u-s mean by the EU telling us what to do?
Largest island in the world. To turn the discussion slightly. Which products can we import that have no negative effect on the original producers people or environment. RS
https://www.eco-business.com/opinion/winners-and-losers-from-the-eus-proposed-ban-on-palm-oil/ I wonder if 'iceland' would have proposed there recent ban on palm oil in own brand products, IF, they thought it would hamper profits? Good marketing, Iceland. Likewise for the, EU. Would they propose a ban on palm oil used in biofuels, IF, they thought it would be detrimental to their image? Nice virtue signalling, EU.
Sick, deranged, deluded? I'd say all of the above. He could be right though......... perhaps leaving the, EU, will see Great Britain slip back into the despotic period it endured before joining the, EU which was filled with fascist ideology and dictatorial governance? The bad old days. Do we want to go back to that?
I can't be sure if you're trying to be ironic, had a change of heart or have no idea of British history.
Nah, he is doing Trumpian technique 1 or is it 2? Call others for what they, themselves, are. (I really must write that thread...)
Err isn’t that how the free market is supposed to work? If consumers think that not killing engaged species is important, then there’s a profit to be made by meeting that need. I don’t know which rock you’ve been living under, but that’s marketing. It’s also probably slightly less cynical/false marketing than most other marketing. Buying from Iceland may protect a few acres - whereas buying my shoes from Nike won’t make me an athlete. ...likewise for the EU. If voters care about environmental destruction then shouldn’t they enact policies to combat it (or at least appear to)? You call it virtue signalling. Fine. But virtue signalling IS politics (for a given value of virtue).
The 'free market' does not give a **** about the world and the environment, the term 'Free Market ' is just a euphemism for greed and excess. This advert should be shown in Schools, I will send it to my son, I know he will show it to my grandchildren. Harry Stottle, It is not a 'harmless ad' it is powerful and encapsulates all that is wrong, give it the credit that you were trying to. We cannot change the world, but our children and grandchildren will, for better or for worse. Let's hope it is the former.
