Hi i have just discovered one of my roof rafters in the loft has a big ish crack in in it, would this concern anyone and would it be a easy enough fix? aslo what would cause this to happen?. Ive had a re wire done and they have cleated the new cable to both sides of the rafter but i wouldn't have thought that would have caused this.

That's probably been like it for years, it's nothing to worry about.

It's deffo not new. Look at colour of timber in the crack/shake. Was probably like it when originally installed and just delegated a bit over time

If you're really worried about it, get some perforated galv band and wrap it around and screw it in.
    Clamp the rafter first.
