SF Pete did, on occasion, either reply to similar posts from members or open his own post and make a brief statement as to what was being done to target these trolls - but, not for a long, long time …….. just pure, utter silence from the ‘Mods’ on the vast majority of occasions these days
As found above, if a forum member vents his disgust and anger in a post and chooses vocabulary that isn’t acceptable to SF, then that post will be removed and a warning issued super fast
Doesn’t matter if you leave out the odd letter and substitute it with a symbol to bypass the profanity filter - the ‘Mod’ filter will still pick up on this and dish out a punishment of sorts
Repeat offenders, or if deemed necessary will also receive a ban for a varying length of time - dependant on the colour of language used
Clearly, last nights porn post reached a new low for the forum, angering many members, and these are just the ones that we know about after putting their comments online
I’m sure that many others would have seen the main offending post (and several others containing idiotic comments) and were alarmed and baffled as to how, a public forum, fronted by a major company could be so easily highjacked and such material published
Frequent forum users will know that this is a frequent occurrence however - certainly not an isolated breach
Myself, and I’m guessing the vast majority of us here also view several other forums on a frequent basis, on a whole range of subjects
I honestly can’t remember seeing such regular abuse on another forum for years - not just huge global company forums but also several, local community groups that I’m a member off
I’m sure that behind the scenes, SF are putting plans in place to prevent this frequent highjacking of the forum but, if many other sites can prevent these attacks from going public (of which many forums are subjected to on a daily basis - they just don’t get through amazingly) - then why can’t good old Screwfix ?
I can’t answer my own question or suggest a way forward as I’m not that tech savvy but….. it’s clearly possible
Finally, as many of us spend money in SF, keeping them in business and offer our time and knowledge on a free basis to contribute to this forum, it would at least be polite and good PR of either Screwfix or Kingfischer or even one of the Mods to make a statement as to the recent and frequent troll attacks and a brief insight as to what is being done to eradicate future attacks
As a Forum regular and a Screwfix customer, is that too much to ask from the company ?
