sealing floorboards

    Hello, we have moved into an old cottage grade 2 listed which has gorgeous floorboards. The problem is they don't seem to have been sealed/waxed/varnished/oiled. We really like the look of them but in high traffic areas and areas where lots of food ends up on the floor (from the kids) they just soak up grime.
    I wonder what the best thing is to treat them with so that they retain their original light colour and yet are easier to keep clean.
    Any ideas?
