My usual plumber is busy at the moment so I am fitting a new basin and WC at my own home.
My question is when fitting all the various washers and gaskets on the cistern and wastes,do you use a smear of silicon on the rubber or not.
    Many thanks in advance.

silicone is an absolute must, there is nothing worse than a leaking bottom conection after all the work is finished, but its a messy thing to work with it gets everywhere, its a monster you have to control or it can do lots of damage to cloths carpets curtains yyyuuukkkk i hate it, but without it the whole plumbing industry would collapse,:)

apply a little silicon around the basin waste, do not use anything on the WC pan connector.

1st thing i do on a basin is throw away the rubbish (mostly) seals they provide with the basin waste, i use clear silicone instead.
Never have used silicone on a w.c.
