https://ibb.co/g2dqYQ https://ibb.co/hLUKSk pictures above Hi there i have dug footings 750mmx600mm for my single storey extension i have 2 questions. I have had a friend who is oart time groundworker have a look and his saying to bring concrete up to level with the house footings which is bout 450-500 does that sound the right amount of concrete on sand and gravel, 2nd i have a shared drain run at the bottom of my footings his idea is to box it in concrete and put rebar over the top of the drain as ypu can see in the picture does this all sound ok? Any advice would be much appreciated
Do you have BC approved drawing? 600 is wide, 750 is shallow. 450 normal width and concrete up to 150 below ground. Shared drain: do you have WA consent to go over it?
yeah I can bc approval they visited yesterday and i have approval to build over it's just deciding if the above is the best way to do it
Absolutely, that is possibly the worse trench I've seen in many a year, and wouldn't be passed by any B.C. around here.
Ok, well there is the ends my input as I wouldn't want to be responsible for any building movement due to that appalling trench.
If you have to ask you shouldn't be doing it, and its not deep enough, not in my area of work any road, 1 metre minimum for any building work.
why shouldn't I be doing it? that's why I'm asking for advice. if BC give me a depth of 750 that's what I'm going to go too.
if u advise me the trench needs sorting.out I'll do it it's the first someone has said that as bc didn't mention it.
1 metre min if it's clay, but if it's sand or ballast which was the norm on my old BCO patch of Kingston Hill 750mm should be fine. Pics leave me unsure as to what I'm looking at though.
the wooden box is over the drain with some rebar over the top is that a good way to bridge it or is it best to bridge it with lintels after wards? yeah it's sand and gravel here thanks for the reply
also here are.more pics of the trench are they really as bad as above.. https://ibb.co/nLPjtQ https://ibb.co/f6zv05
Trench is very much better. Now what did B.C. say about the Sewer pipe in terms of bridging over it.??
thanks appreciate the help. any guidance I'll take in board first time doing this I'm still waiting on a call back but I spoke to another officer who said both ways should be fine. what's your preferred method? - shutter the sides concrete either side then lay a concrete lintels. or - box in completely concrete over the top and add a few rebars on the top in the middle? thanks for the help
Shutter either side and lintel over is the only way as far as I'm concerned. Boxing it in and casting over leaves you with a weaker foundation above the pipe, I know you have reinforcing bars but it's not as strong as lintel and more work to do.
