I am currently refurbishing a shed and hopefully converting it into a workshop. I am currently trying to figure out what size timber joists I need for the roof.

The shed is a prefab mainly built out of shiplap cladding and 70x35mm timbers. The measurements are as follows -

    Length - 4250mm x 2400mm width
    Pitched roof - 2500mm length
Heights on lengths - 2100mm one side 2300mm the other.

The current roof is simply timber with cladding and had felt over. Due to leaks the cladding has bowed and I have sourced some 21mm Ply to replace it. I am also looking to create a larger overhang using 3000mm timber lengths. Eventually the shed will be insulated and I shall be cladding the inside of the shed as well.

What I am stuck on is what size timber joists I should use on the roof.

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. any other tips are welcome!

I'd probably go for something like 100mm minimum. Strength is proportional to the cube of the height so adding 1" of height on the timbers increases the strength dramatically. 150mm might be overkill, timbers in my shack are around 125mm I think.
