Should this bleed valve be closed?

Had to drain my central heating system the other day to swap a radiator. When re pressurising there was air hissing out some sort of bleed valve near the boiler. It was half open.

(Brass valve on top of white pipe).

is this literally to help get air out the system? Should it be closed off when system is fully bled and up to pressure?

It’s an automatic air vent so can be left open, although they usually leak eventually.
