Got what we think is a wattle ceiling. Removed the artex from the original skim and got a smooth finish. High spots left are under 1mm. The appearance of the ceiling is marred by reminants of artex on the low spots.

    Any comments on:

    Currently suitability of the surface.
    Wash with mildly soapy water.
    Dry for a few days.
    PVA coat.
    Reskim.

Could keep scraping but am trying to preserve ceiling integrity. Some small movement / flex when pushed right now, but not enough to suggest ata danger of falling to my inexperienced soul.

You mean lath and plaster ceiling. Consider overboarding and skim.

Bugger, was hoping to avoid, hence removing the Tex. Can I ask why this suggestion, is it the remnant crud, or amore fundamental issue.

    Also thanks for terminology!

    Far quicker to get finished.

Sand the high spots to flat and proceed with your detailed plan of actions, your call really. :)

Ok ta I really appreciate it. My time isa non issue, but money is (privately furloughed engineer!) so unless there is a fundamental issue I'll give it a go at the risk of spending more and learning a new skill...

Blue Grit may/would be the preferred choice instead of PVA.

Got any Y cracks... like a fork in the road as that's a week point.

Can vac and pour plaster mix from above to strengthen but prop up from below. Any type of plaster mix wiii do.

Use ready-mix smoother over and then sand. Maybe roll on smoother

Vacuum, light mist spray, thin cover of expanding foam.
    From above that is.

Or overboard in 9mm pb and tape and fill yourself.
    Still be low cost.

Cheers guys, there are two 2ft sq areas where I have knocked out the plaster and will be reapplying because it is / was loose

Appreciate the info to Isave me time, but am viewing this as a learning curve for private use!

When I get bored in the next room I'll take your advice for shorter time!

Just watch those ceilings don't come down with a bump.. They show signs of failing then just come down. You don't want to be under it
