  1. My son has just bought a house that is in 3 flats 2 down and 1 up he is looking at altering the front downstairs flat by removing the studded wall between the kitchen and living room making it a better layout my question is, will the new kitchen sitting room need a smoke detector and a heat detector as there is now or can there be just a heat detector to stop the smoke alarm going off when cooking.

One option would be to use a heat detector in the kitchen and a optical or multi-detector in the living room space.

Is the house going to remain as individual flats?

If you are unsure of the type and position of smoke alarm, watch the relevant videos on the Aico site or speak to them:

You may also be able to ask the local fire service community safety team to visit and advise.
