    Box it out with wood?

Always better in my opinion to do a proper boxing than use the preformed.

    Makes for a better job

  3. How do I get the curved corner on it though? Want it to look ‘neat’ and not ‘home made’ (I’m not brilliantly skilled with woodwork!)

Whilst I agree with Goldenboy, another alternative for pennies is off cuts of White uPVC fascia used to box the pipes.

Thats fine mate. Everyone had to learn once. Have a go. As jord says upvc is great for a "factory" look.

  6. Cheers all. Where do I get facia offcuts?

See your local builders, window fitters, roofers etc in your regular pub and speak nicely to them, or visit a uPVC stockist and either buy a 3m length or see if they have a damaged piece for sale for sod all.

    That's expensive for trunking.
Look at various pvc profiles from National Plastics etc.
Bound to be able to knock up a nice finish.
Here is a little tip for moving or wide gaps on wall strings on stairs.
2 lengths of trim.(stuck on..no nails needed) 20190111_154343.jpg and if needed will take a very neat bead of silicone to finish well.
