Maybe so, but how many outlets do you know stock Sparky.
Go to any dealer mention Makita, Bosch, DeWalt to name a few and I bet you get no one who doesnt know these brands.
Second what about after sales service when something goes wrong. You can go almost anywhere to get M, B & W kit repaired.
Horses for coarses. You get what you pay for.
An old compare. BMW, Merc or Trabant

You are probably right. Thank you for your comment. But As i understood SPARKY is new commer to UK. It has been on Screwfix for a month now. One probably just have to ask where is there Service center.
That's why I am asking if anyone got in hands one Sparky machine, so that i can hear an experienced opinion.
For example I am looking for a Mixer. I noticed this one http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=90623&ts=87104#
which looks very good.

I was looking also for a Concrete grinder and found this one: http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=34109&ts=87507
I couldn't find any other Brand offering a Concrete Grinder.

Both of those look cheap tacky and nasty

I would be frightened to death in dropping them in case they snap.

Stick to decent brands/makes

As the old saying goes, If you buy cheap, you buy twice.

Eastern imported junk

Ah, that's where I went wrong with the first Wife! :^O

The builder I do alot of work for bought the sparky diamond hole cutter drill, packed up on the 5th 117mm hole on the first day he bought it, took it back and bought a Makita

I have only just found this forum. I manage Sparky in the UK and have read the comments made, mostly uninformed rubbish. Here are the facts. Sparky is a German company, based in Berlin. It bought a power tool factory in Bulgaria in 97 that had been managed and run by AEG for many years. Its a big factory of about 1300 workers. It makes components and some machines for many of the big brands. It has been selling in the UK since 98 but mostly in private label brand names.

Well I use AEG and I am impressed, the majority of my tools are Dewalt, looking at the price of Sparky stuff I would rather replace like for like, sorry no offence.

Nice try Pengu, but I doubt he's that thick?

However you never know as the marketing department aint exactly chose a good name to start with!

None taken. People are buying it, fortunately, or I am the poorer. It is good decent kit so it will eventually succeed or not on its quality and value. This is why some well known brands are getting stronger and some, despite their millions of marketing spend, are losing ground.

Good response sinewave. I understand Sparky originally started business in the welder / generator business. They thought it was a good name !

I would be interested to know if any of you think the Sparky name is that important. Do you buy tools that do the job, or the brand that you think gives your customer the impression you are a serious professional?

If used properly.

Hmmm.... nice try at a disclaimer

The better quality equipment used by the trade has an element of robustness (bullet proofing) built in as a standard..

Are you saying "If used properly" meaning if its not treated with kid gloves the casings / bearings / gear drives / motors will fail within a short period.

Even though the range includes 110v equipment, I'm not convinced that the quality is above that of 'Ferm' .. whilst being terrific value as a diy tool, is not up to working for a living on a daily basis. (nor am I.. but thats a different story)

We know its good kit

Far be it for me to teach you or my grandmother how to suck eggs...

But you knowing dosen't help, you sorta need to convince the peeps whos money you want.

But there are ways of getting a better returns for your advertising budget....

Word of mouth is free !...

How to start the snowball rolling down the mountain.. Give some kit away.. !!

If used properly.

So what was my friend the builder doing wrong when the sparky core cutter drill stopped working on the 5th- 117mm hole he cut on the very first day he bought it?

Maybe it was meant to have a 1 hour little nap between making a hole.. (bit like me)

What was the after sales service like tellondon .. did they exchange it (or make him wait for ages whilst they thought about it) ?

IMHO the trade name sparky sounds like a budget product thats built down to a price.

I'm not willing to invest my hard earned dosh to prove otherwise... I think it may be cheaper long term to stick with the quality brand.
