Hi, I'm moving into a new home with unbelievably squeaky floorboards and carpet already laid over the top. I've researched briefly and found that you can secure the boards to the joists through the carpet. How reliable would you say this is? My vague plan was to try and find the joists then nail through the carpet to secure the boards, but am a little wary of hitting any pipes or wires. Any advice very much appreciated!
Not a carpenter but have had the same thing in my home. I don’t see how you can address the issue correctly without pulling up the carpet.
If you are planning on keeping the carpets then get a carpet fitter round to remove the carpets. He can then relay once you have finished.
Yikes! Nailing through carpets would be a right bodge and risky too! Take the carpet up and do it properly.
You might be lucky or it might be a complete disaster. Lift the Carpet and pay to get it refitted. Not too expensive. Have recently sorted loose/noisy boards in my 1930s. Pipes and cables in some unexpected places and very close to the surface
You can’t, some idiot somewhere may say they’ve done it but may omit that they flooded their house or electrocuted themselves, and the mess they made of their carpet. Lift half the carpet back and do the first half, put it back then lift and do the second half.
