My brother-in-law has just moved into a dormer bungalow. The stairs are very steep and there isn't much tread, you have to side step to go up and down. I have already falling down them once.

Are there any rules in regulations regarding stairs as my mother-in-law lives on the same street and her stairs are quite different with proper tread and riser.

    Many thanks

Those are space saving 'paddle stairs', passed once upon a time for loft conversions, used where space is very tight, your mother in laws house has probably got a much larger stairwell opening allowing a proper staircase to have been fitted.

That's the puzzling thing. Both houses are identical. Next door but one to each other. Both dormer bungalows built at the same time. I will measure them. Thanks mate.
