I've recently noticed a number of warehouses using a fluorescent fitting that has a standby mode where it gives out approximately 1/3 of normal light.

The fittings are normally wired to both a switch (that turns them off completely) and a PIR (which brings them out of standby until the next period of no PIR activity.

What are these fittings called and where can I find some?

Have heard of them but have only seen outside light fittings with this feature so far. The ones I have seen are called HI-LO fittings where as you say, they give out a low light when on standby but go to full brilliance when switched on or are activated by PIR.
