Yesterday, my daughter took me to The Great Dorset Steam Fair. My first time & I thoughly enjoyed it. Walking around the "jumble" section, I couldn't help noticing how many used power tools were offered for sale, most of them 110v. Call me cynical if you like, but I can't help wondering how many had been nicked from sites, vans, etc.
90% + I would say, and the rest are junk that's been thrown out by tradesman but picked up by peeps like those there to sell.
Most of my power tools are engraved with my NI number, even if I move house, my tools can still be traced back to me.
Or even bothered, my friends garage got broken into last week, phoned the police and was told " an officer would be out to see them within 24 hrs".
It's more of a deterrent Phil. They are very unlikely take them, as they are too well marked & it's too much hassle removing id marks, if my id marks were painted, or by marker pen then it's a simple job to removed. Years ago I had my workshop broken into, all the tools had been removed from my side filer cabinet & left on the bench. Only thing taken was my sloe gin, potatoe wine & a tool holdall.
sorry i meant to actually say he was told 48 hrs, needles to say he told them not bother and just send a crime number for insurance purposes.
My potatoe wine could strip paint at fifty paces, lethal stuff. If it grew & was edible it went in the freezer or made into wine. Been thinking about making wine again, got several I want to try, pea pod, broad bean & celery are top of my list.
Years ago, when I was a young naive apprentice, someone asked me to wrap some copper tubing around a mandrel on a lathe to form a coil. Something to do with making potato wine.
