Stopping the small boats

Oh yeah, I can't even blame Starmer.

I would hope you would blame whoever was in charge of dealing with it, it was completely unnecessary, but it was and still is the most important issue for Conservatives and Faragists.

Not that it matters, neither are anywhere near government.

Bright_Spark, do you mean it's OK for Putin to take over the West? Just asking for a friend...before I head for my bunker
No but he is obviously going to take Ukraine in the end. It is only prolonging things by supplying weapons and ammunition. If Ukraine were to succeed it would take additional troops which means even greater involvement. Putin would not go the whole hog and take on the West, Ukraine is not a NATO country. Poland etc is so he would have to stop at Ukraine or take on NATO which he would most certainly not want to do. Nobody wants WW3 as there would be no winners, he wants what was initially his and get back to the old USSR. Other member states that are now in NATO would be out of his scope.

By supplying these Storm Shadow missiles to attack deep into Russia, it is provoking an attack from Russia to escalate the war into Europe. He would have no option but to retaliate and do something. It is probably time to negotiate with him now rather than to push him into a corner.

About 96% of people arriving in the UK are legal. About 4% do so via boats (2023). I agree something should be done (not the half-baked Rwanda plan) to stop the crossings. More safe routes perhaps?

A big problem is applying for asylum in the UK can only be done if the claimant is already in the UK. Bit of a Catch 22 going on there. There are 2 safe routes though. One from Ukraine and one from Afghanistan. The latter can only be accessed if it can be proved that the claimant worked for the British Government and their life is in danger. I suppose if the Taliban gets wind of their application, their life is in danger.

About 60% of claimants, when their claim has been finalised, are allowed to stay. Just about everyone from Afghanistan, Eritrea and Syria are accepted.

So the undesirables (mostly Albanian and Indians) are 40% of 4% that wish to live here. I think that works out that 1.6% of all migrants into the UK are not wanted after they have been processed (sounds like meat...). I've no idea what happens to them. But 98.4% are allowed to remain.

Asylum seekers that are housed in hotels that offer food are given £8.24 a week.

None are allowed to work. Bit of a missed opportunity in my opinion.

Yes, it's a problem. But not as existential as some would have us believe.

Everyone of them should be refused and none allowed to remain. The country is full and overflowing. The indigenous population are suffering due to mass illegal and legal immigration. It is well past time to throw out the extra ballast that is bringing us down.

Who do you refer to when you say 'indigenous population'?

Actual facts and statistics only put things into perspective for the small number of people who have not yet been gripped by immigration fever, the latest pandemic to sweep the UK, the early symptoms are an all consuming fear of being overcome by 'an invasion' of people of a different colour or creed, this develops into a terminal distrust of anyone that looks or thinks differently, and finally it manifests in an ability to understand reason whist believing anything said on GB News, the Mail, or by dafties like Farage and Jacob Rees Flogit, it is a legitimate mental illness in that it makes people hate others they have never met, depresses everyone, and ultimately destroys economies who have gone from profiting from immigration to paying to prevent immigrants support the economy.

Meanwhile the UK is owned by rich immigrants via hedge funds or just buying bits of it, but we are ok with that.

And basically what we have is a nationwide campaign with real resentment toward 6% of the poorest and most vulnerable immigrants, where once we admired people for their grit and determination, and had empathy for those in real need, we have transformed, via immigration fever, to a nation pliable to the far right tendencies of hate and fear.

Think you are getting carried away with yourself again Alan, you are sounding like Trump now.
