    Hey,

Is stormdry / masonry cream an alternative to absent cavity trays In a cavity wall.

Need some work doing on an extension which has leaking flashing and no cavity trays. Had a builder visit who quoted for repointing wall/ replacing flashing and applying a masonry cream (which is breathable apparently)

    Any thoughts?

Doesn't look like it! From other forums it seems it's seen as abit of bodge product so you may want to stay clear

I've used it on my extension. The Mrs wanted raked out pointing. I didn't want water soaking into the top of my bricks so I've pasted this all over. It works well for what I need. I wouldn't use it as an alternative to a cavity tray. It is breathable, think Gore Tex for your house

What if you couldn't get cavity trays installed? Is it better than nothing?

A mate of mine used it on his wall above a new garage roof as the wall was damp inside. I think it worked. It's got to be better than nothing but it's not ideal...... Assuming the moisture is penetrating the brickwork and not coming in further up
