    Hi guys,

I recently had my hallway redecorated in my ground floor flat, at the start of November. All looked great until yesterday morning I noticed a strange dark streak in the space between the ceiling and the top of the door frame:

The area doesn't feel damp or wet to the touch but the paint is flaking a bit in the middle. I am borrowing a friend's moisture detector tomorrow to test it with. Any ideas on what this could be? Leak maybe?

    Thanks,

    Jamie

    What's located above the wall?

I reckon that this is to do with some thing on the wall before painting. Keep an eye on it, but you will most likely have to stain block and paint it.

The flat above. Their flat's layout is exactly the same as mine, so their hallway is directly above mine. They also have central heating like myself but the rads are not in close proximity.

It's really weird because the wall area near to it is slightly rough in texture as it is plasterboard wall but where the stain is it is completely smooth to the touch. Doesn't feel damp or watery if I press it down. The area just to the right of the stain, there is a crater of sorts where the plaster has cracked, then sunk inwards.

I've borrowed a moisture tester/damp tester to test it tonight.. Will see what it says.

My plumber came round on Saturday to fix another issue in the flat. He cut a small inspection hole near the stain (that he could get an endoscope into) and used a thermal camera to check for a leak and found no evidence of a leak whatsoever. The plasterboard and drywall near the stain were in excellent condition.

My decorator will be coming back to resolve. Thanks for your input.
