I need a stud wall built between the main living area and utility room. The stud wall needs to be 69mm thick as this means there will be enough space for a washing machine and dryer next to each other. So I have three questions. 1, Does building regs allow stud walls be thin as 69mm thick timber. (plus 12.5mm plasterboard 2, What size door lining will I need if the wall has 12.5m plasterboard on both sides. 3, Will this be quiet enough if packed with rockwool acoustic. Thanks
A 32 x 100mm (27 x 94mm) finished size door lining will give a 2'6"/2'9" opening. http://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Inte...wood-Door-Lining-27-5-x-94mm-x-2-01m/p/146287 Hunt around will find cheaper I expect. Could also used an accoustic plasterboard like Gyproc Soundbloc or similar, has a denser core than ordinary plasterboard. http://www.insulationexpress.co.uk/Sound-Resistant-Board/Gyproc-Soundbloc.htm
Use 63mm x 38mm cls for the structure, building regs no problems with this. 12.5mm both sides added on to 63 is 88mm, as KIAB above says buy a 94mm finished size door lining set, will allow for a 3mm plaster skim both sides. Can buy rockwool slab insulation, better soundproofing/denser than the rolls, and as above, use blue sound resistant plasterboard to achieve as much soundproofing as you can.
