Hi forum first time posting, our garden slopes from left to right (looking out from the house) on the left there’s concrete fence posts about 6ft tall. We’ve dropped the level on our side to get the right level for our new patio which is probably about 1 1/2 ft down now, we’ll be raising that back up with sub base tomorrow and the patio/mortar bed should take it all back up a few inches below original level. question is what to do about that difference in level? There’s a thin bed of concrete between each post, and below a thick layer of clay. We wanted to bridge the gap somehow but are hoping to get some suggestion? there’s a picture attached which might help visualise it. cheers
You'll have to build a small wall of some sort to retain and conceal the exposed post and fence base. Depending on how tight you are for space it would be a good opportunity to make it a raised bed/planter to further enhance the area.
Not quite sure what you’re after or why you need to get back to precisely original level but if you’ve dug down and essentially undermined the post fixings then ideally you need to build the first foot or so at least of your patio base as a concrete pad rather than Type1. Once complete if there is a reason you can’t run your patio nearly all the way to the fence then normal practice would be to infill with a layer of decorative aggregate.
