Hello. I'm having problems with wiring a telephone extension line.

I have a NTE5A master socket with orange and white wires coming into the back of it. This all works fine. I have a dial tone, tested telephone etc. It has terminals 2,3,5 free for an extension.

I have ordered 3 pair 6 way copper wire for the extension line. (Ordered online instead of screwfix because I wanted it black as it will run outside and back into an upstairs bedroom).

The problem is the colours of the wire don't seem to match any of the guides online. I've tried different ways like blue to 2 and white to 5. I don't even have an orange wire alot of these guides talk about! Anyway no luck, phone on slave socket is dead.

I seem to have blue, white, yellow, green, black and red (looks pink to me!)

Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong? Thank you.

Wrong cable, 2 pair is all you need, normally use CW1308 cable external which is black.

As to colours ,it's 5 White & blue, 2 blue with white, 3 orange with white (bell wire) isn't needed today.

    Search,can find cheaper.

Cat 5e exterior would also have worked.

And in the end it doesn't matter as long as you connect 2 to 2 and 5 to 5.

Untwisted non-pair cable - will give you all sorts of problems. And if you have any form of DSL - even with filters it will play havoc with your speeds.

Get some real exterior CW1308 - easily available and will work way better.

Thank you for the replies. Ordered the cable KIAB suggested.
