Hi all. I am putting down 12mm floating laminate floor right throughout downstairs with the hope to flow the laminate through doorways without a transition strip for a really slick look at the end (same level subfloor important). It is a concrete subfloor. Most of the floor is really nice and level but there is a section of tiling I just pulled up that has naturally left tile adhesive behind on the subfloor, see pictures. Is there an easy way or trick to getting tile adhesive up off the subfloor? I know many would probably lean towards self levelling compound but Id rather not raise the level of the floor in that area as I would either need to have a transition level change somewhere or pour SLC everywhere....neither of which i particularly want. help
scrape it off - tools needed all depends on how tough it is to get the adhesive off. Cold chisel and hammer / multi tool with scraper blade / sds hammer with wide spade bit.
It tends to either come off really easily... Or damn near impossible. Judging by the pics you sent, fear it may be the latter! Good luck
A garden hoe has helped me in the past... although I can’t think how I discovered that Cold chisel is the other go-to, just prepare for a long job and hope you’re wrong
guess il find out soon thanks. Ive read somewhere warm water moppe dover it can help soften it up...sounded a bit suspect to me tho
Another option alright. Dust would be carnage though! Bit of an update, the tile adhesive is a mix of easier and hard to remove. I think afterwards I would maybe need to skim with self leveller and fill the deeper gouges with tile adhesive maybe. Has anyone any tips for feathering self leveller. I have Mapei that is meant for 1-10mm. I tried a coat of it thinner that 1mm in places somewhere else and it just crumbled and brushed away with a yard brush in those areas. How forgiving is laminate with foam underlay. I do not want bounce or squeak
Regarding using SL as a feathering compound - you've kinda answered your own question there ! Right product for the right job; https://www.tileexperience.co.uk/ar...VZcSnfh48GXBLP4lA4YKa6SVZh8oSYDRoCZTsQAvD_BwE Not cheap, few different sizes available, also a ready mixed tub I think ?
You need to prime the area you are using the leveller over with SBR first to provide a good bond, then use a trowel to pull and push it where needed, less than 1mm isn't even worth thinking about.
thisnis exactly the type of stuff I need! Is there any other brands That do similar stuff as it looks like Ardex might be tricky to get off the shelf here in Ireland?
Forget the angle grinder. I've used a long handled scraper (code 87299) from SF for this sort of work. Great tool.
Just do a search for ‘feathering compound’ I’m sure Ardex haven’t got the monopoly on this type of product and order online if necessary Good luck
Done this in my kitchen........oh god the dust..... Luckily I could tap the door seals and open the back door............my kitchen looked like a orange tango advert. Could only grind for a minute at a time
