I've a small area of pipe I need to box in before tiling in new kitchen...

I've plenty of 9mm ply.. I was intending to use this and the seal with waterproof PVA before tiling...

I know ordinary PVA is a no-no as the adhesive will reactivate it, but is it OK with waterproof PVA, or should I just use nothing and tile direct on the ply...

    Or something else?

I've tiled directly onto untreated ply before and I've tiled onto ply that is sealed with tanking slurry.
In both cases I used slow-set flexible adhesive and flexible grout.
Some of my efforts have been good for 20 years or more, and others are more recent, but they all worked, and continue to work just fine.
