Hi, Please can someone tell me the best way to make this cut (image attached). I only own a hand saw and a jigsaw. I tried using a handsaw but I can't follow the line closely enough at the back when I'm focusing on the line at the front. Many thanks Mark
that's a difficult cut to make accurately unless you have a table saw. No point in trying with the handsaw! what size timber and how long is the piece?
Don’t know what size timber your working with, what timber and how fine the work needs to be ? (That’s 3 questions) !! Would a fence ‘Arris Rail’ be any good as an ‘off the shelf’ solution ?
It's 1 inch x 2 inch x 14inch batten. Not sure what type of wood, reusing what was ripped out during the renovation. The plan is to make a corner mirror cabinet, I want to attach a batten on each wall in the corner to attach the cabinet doors too, but the battens will need to have sections (corners) cut off so it's all flush. I'm not a carpenter haha, just someone having a go!
As it's only 14 inches long and a batten just lay it flat on a hop up/2ft or less high workbench and cut it with your handsaw, go slow and try to be as accurate as you can, adjust and clean it up with a hand plane and sandpaper afterwards. If you don't have a plane, wrap sandpaper around a six inch block and use that.
Then see if your jigsaw has a tilt attachment and risk having your fingers off whilst using, buy a circular saw with a parallel fence, tilt it at 45 degrees and cut through it, but it's a lot of money for one or two cuts or try again with the handsaw but clamp the timber so it can't move and go slow.
