    Hi

Today I had to trim 5mm off some Oak worktops, I was joining two pieces to make a long run, and one piece was 622mm wide and the other 627mm. So that was 5mm off the whole 4M edge.

I bodged together a straight edge by using a spare kitchen plinth to use as guide for the router, clamped to the worktop, but I can’t help think it was as bit Heath Robinson. What would have been the right way to do this? My router does have a guide and bars, but not that wide.

    Many thanks,

    Jim

Your method was fine, it's not exactly a textbook situation so whatever is at your disposal that gives the best finish, circular saw with a fence/rail, table saw, track saw with rail, cleaned up with a random orbital sander or a light going over with a belt sander to finish.
