Could anyone help me identify this component?

It was installed by BG when we switched from an open CH system to a combi sealed system with a Greenstar 30CDi boiler.

Its obstructing a space we want to move the tumble dryer into but not sure what it is or whether it is optional/can be moved etc?

Any advice much appreciated!
Cheers

Cold water expansion vessel

Cheers Paul, much appreciated.

Is it a mandatory component or something that could be removed?

Thanks

Surely a shock-arrestor as Lee says?

It can be repositioned to a more suitable location, such as further along or down that pipe it's on. I think it could also be fitted slightly remotely - ie via a short length of extra pipe.

You might be able to do without it, but it's a useful item, preventing sudden 'shocking' pressure swings when taps etc are opened and closed.

Best to keep it, but it can go elsewhere along that pipe within reason.

It is a shock arrestor and should be fitted as close to the Combi as possible.
They are fitted when a water meter is fitted, the meter has a non return valve which does not allow for water expansion into the cold pipe.
Some boiler reccomend the fitting of these in the installation instructions.

Thank you all. Much appreciated

There are smaller, much lower profile devices out there, so will look to exchange it for one of those. Then the TD what project out from the worksurface too much!

Cheers!!
