Seems his only option is going to be to download the newer version anyway... I have to ask if this old cove liked Win 3.1? I'm surprised he didn't want that installed on an old 386 processor system and I do hope you managed to stick him an old 5" floppy drive in. :p:p:p:p

Anyway, well done DA for getting him a nice computer. ;);)

  2. Annoyingly he didn't include his email addy in the required info when he registered, or else that would have been a good solution. As it is, BBO say they cannot help as he cannot prove who he is!

How did he ever register with them without an email address? Lax security is all I can think of.

  4. Hee hee :)

Not that I know anything about Bridge, but I understand that the new web-based format isn't as popular - don't ask me why. Mum-in-law hates it too, so she harangued and bludgeoned them into apparently keeping it going for a few months longer...

    (She's well scary... :()

  5. Jeepers, turned out to be stupidly easy - got help on the BBO forum.

Logged on to the site using his old pooter - which had the password 'remembered' - and then went into Settings, Profile and changed the password.

    That bludy easy.

Jeepers - all the hassle it's caused.

He is going to be sooo chuffed tomorrow :)

And as a bonus, you now know his password for the site and could log in and play a few games for him. :p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p

  7. Bridge?

That would mean I'd have to become 'sad'.

    Yeah, yeah, yeah... :(

Nah , you wouldn't have to become "SAD", DA, not in the least. :p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p:p

Huh, and there was us thinking you were using his old computer(after you saying you were looking for saved passwords in browsers)!

  10. I was - I have it at ma hoosie to get files from.

I was surprised - normally you need to re-enter your old password before changing it to a new. But not on BBO.

Yes, it turned out to be stupidly easy - but I was more stupid.

Anyhoo, thanks for all the prompts - espec KIAB who made me try to logon on to the BBO forum again.

    Ditto....

  12. Soz.

I looked everywhere. I thought I mentioned I could log on with his old machine?

Surprised to find that you don't need to re-enter the old p'word in order to change the new - that's unusual.

    But, my bad...

No,some older programs you didn't need to, even up to a few years ago, but with the threat of online nasties, that has changed, which is a good thing.

  14. Or a bad thing... :)

(Even the BBO web person said to my muminlaw he'd need to have had his email addy on the server before they could renew/recover his password. Perhaps he was talking about the new software...)

What with ransomware around, having good passwords & internet security is essential today, all too easy & many ways to access a pc, like Windows Remote Desktop, spyware (and worse) that would allow you to see everything on a pc & take contol without the host knowing.

  17. Ok, not done quite yet...

    Office/Word 2003.

I've found a separate HDD section where the last computer guy made a small section to hold 'PC Setup Files'.

In this he has a folder called Office2003Pro which has the following inside it (see file attached) and also a separate page with all the activation codes :)

Ok, I now have a fresh copy of Word 2003 downloaded from t'net, but also now this folder. Can anyone tell me if this folder (see below) contains everything I'd need to install Office on his new machine? Would I simply transfer the whole contents over, click on 'setup' and then enter the codes?

Or am I better to chust go for the new clean downloaded copy?

    Ta again muchly.

  18. Och, I know.

I chust meant it's a good thing in this case or else I'd have been stuffed :)

  19. It's a beaut, man.

    (Actually, it really is :))
