Looking for some advice, sorry if this has already been posted previously!

I have a 2G socket to replace the only issue I have is the wiring in the back box is to short, previously I would use terminal strips and extend but I have seen the Wago products and they look a lot safer.

My question is can you use the Wago 221 or 222 instead of terminal blocks?

    thanks

    John

Thanks, I wanted a 2nd opinion as I used some ideal connectors first time round and either one of those failed or the socket failed and it shorted burning out inside the backbox, I used my home cover to get someone out sort the problem but they wouldn't put the socket on etc... as that wasn't covered...typical.

Side question what is the difference between the 221 and 222 ? is just the design?

I'm not a qualified sparkie, but have used Wagos and really like them, much better than choc blocks. Looks like the 221 is a newer slimmer and higher capacity version of the 222. If its a standard ring final so you have 2x2.5mm T&E cables, then you'll need 3x 222-412 connectors.

Aye Doc what you say is correct. The 221 on the left is obviously a lot more compact then the 222 on the right.

Cheers guys, so go with 2.5mm T&E, I used that previously but the guy who came out when it first went sideways advised me to use 4mm??

What is the circuit on which this 2G socket is connected, is it on a ring final (typically using 2.5mm) or on a radial, which might then use 4mm? Is there one T&E cable or two and what size is it?

There is two Dr Bodgit, I'm not there currently but from memory they look 2.5mm

Well use whatever is there and wire it the same way.

Your "guy" may have been thinking to connect up the 2xT&E cables in a connector and then take one lead from that connection to the 2G socket in 4mm. But that breaks the ring final and is not what I'd do. Simply extend the existing cables using the same cables, and connect to the 2G socket in the exact same manner.

It was my home care through my bank, once it shorted out and basically burnt out I didn't want to touch it again. So I called the number and they sent someone out I assume he was qualified given that I was ringing about an electrical issue......I hope he was giving out advice!
