I am working on my kitchen and recently replaced 40mm push fit waste pipes and joints.
On this occasion I used some washing-up liquid to help the joints slip together more easily. It seems after reading links on the internet that neat washing-up liquid attacks the rubber, it only been on the joints a few days so if I wash it off will all be good? Over the years I have sometimes used it thinking it was an acceptable practice.

    All replies appreciated.

  2. I’m a plumber and always use silicone grease. Apparently the washing up liquid can rot the seal. Also I was always told it dries out, which makes the fittings difficult to get apart in future for maintenance.
Not a fan of push fit 32/40mm waste, much rather use solvent weld for this.

You will be fine to redo the joints with silicone grease Mark.
