I'm thinking of changing to water based gloss (white) to shorten drying time and to stop premature yellowing. Do I need to use water based undercoat or can I just rub down, wash with sugar soap and apply finish coat(s). No change of colour involved. Any recommended brands or ones to avoid ?

Yes., would rub down , wash off and use the undercoat, a couple of paints worth considering are Crown Fast Flow and Johnsons Aqua.

On my shopping list for tomorrow. Shame I missed the £4.99 deal, but to be fair, even £11.99 seems good value.

To be totally honest you will not be disappointed, they are a superb quality brush.;) Started 40 years ago using Harris then moved to Hamilton and then onto Purdy but thought I'd try the Harris one's on offer, well pleased, only wish I had bought a few more packs.

Harris brushworks not far away from where I grew up. Thankfully I did not end up there :D

Did you ever get the opportunity to look at the manufacturing process?

I've been in there Astra. Unfortunately, or fortunately, it was where most academically challenged ended up.

I've never worked there. Just used a space in the factory once.

Out of idle curiosity, are they still there?, I thought that apart from Purdy and Wooster (USA), all paint brushes are made in china.

Picked up two boxes of the Harris brushes yesterday. Looking at them, they appear far better than some Wooster ones I bought recently at double the price.
Will be road testing them tomorrow.
