I'm redecorating some outside windows and keen to use
all water based for the first time.
Got the Bedec Barn Paint ready, but some reputtying needed.
Any deccies out there found a water based primer that stays
on. I've read some earlier posts which said use acrylic putty
first , then others report it shrinks back. I want to go all W/B
for environmental reasons. Have already gone W/B for indoor
    decorating. Thanks. Chillimonster.

You going to have to wait for putty to harden right off before you prime. There are alalternatves to linseed putty that you can overcoat with water based paint following day.

Thanks Wayners. I saw Astramax once comment on excessive shrinkage with Dry Seal MP. I guess I'll
put some O/B over the putty after all then try some 1-2-3.

Linseed putty takes weeks/months to fully dry and any coating applied on top could often end up wrinkling as the putty dries. The old adage "you cannot mix oil and water' also holds true as well!!
As Wayners suggests it would be best to first seal the putty with a non-oil based product.

Firstly prime the rebates in the frame to prevent the oil in the putty being drawn into the timber frame , when dry apply the putty and leave to skin over for about 10 days or so then Zinsser123 to prime over the putty and off you go with the Bedec.

I use Top Gun glazing putty, it’s water water based.
