Water company assisted repair?

Got a wet patch seeping water on my road, it's a private road, phoned Scottish water(I'm in Scotland) and they detected a leak, tested the water and it's mains water, they are going to fix it for free as an 'assisted repair' but they said this doesn't cover re tarring the road, they will leave it level and servicable/safe and tar patch it if they have someone in the area but ultimately I may have to do the final tar thing.

Anyone had an 'assisted repair'? and can I get a road company to do the patch? it's not that big an area.

surely that would depend on where exactly the leak is ??
if do not have a water meter or stop cock in the street as a changeover point then i assume its the "T"from the main pipe so check exactly where it is when they do it

It looks fairly certain to be a junction in that my water pipe runs at 90 degrees from exactly where the leak is, Scottishwater think so too, when the road was tarred a few years ago the builders capped off the main pipe just after me because they were putting in a new supply to other houses from the main further back, it's just me off that one, I'm about 500 yards from the main down the road with no external stop cock.

If they say they will surface it if they have someone in the area then it sounds like they are responsible... a strange comment to make. To me it's either their responsibility or yours. I'm sure they will have someone in the area another day?

It's my responsibility as in the leak is on my/private road and well past their ownership/responsibility, water in Scotland is still publically owned though and the customer service is pretty outstanding, I think basically the local engineer is going to have a word and see if they can go a bit beyond to tar it but needs to point out I'm already getting a courtesy because it's their water supply..if he can't arrange that.

Use UltraCrete instant road repair or an equivalent "permanent" material?

I have a neighbour that uses the same road that demands the highest standard in all things he doesn't pay for, I don't think he would be satisfied with anything but a 'professional' resurface.

The leak is right where the front wheels of his two ton electric car come to a halt to reverse into his drive, if it's not perfect it will be sunk or dug out with his power steering.
Well, forget about it then, and just fill it with concrete, or ignore it. Usability may be a thing, but I can't see aesthetic concerns playing a part.

Aesthetic concerns will be the forefront of his mind when he inspects it, which he will, and find something to complain about, hence the reluctance to do it myself.

So as before, just get the leak fixed and leave it as is.

I would, at least till I got round to wondering if it needed anything more, but my neighbour is, how can I put this, opinionated and persistent in a dripping tap sort of way, for an easy life I have learned to plan anything that can be moaned about out of the equation.

He said before the quote:eek:

Ok I think I have a plan, got a local tar company coming to have a look and give me a price for that, and I need to remember to ask them about a stopcock, just waiting on the local water engineer to give me a date for fixing the leak, many thanks all the input, there is a confidence in knowing you have a gang of clued up forum members trouble shoot before you make decisions on these things so cheers all.
