Hi all, new on the forum looking for help getting pressure back into my boiler.

Boiler was installed in 2018, WB Greenstar CDi classic condensing combination boiler

It has a built in isolator valve (blue in picture below) but when I open the valve, nothing happens. I can hear a buzzing sound but definitely no water running through and no pressure building..

I’m now on the lookout for external filling loop that could be the cause, and the only places I can find where it could possibly be I have photographed below:

If anyone could give any advice or guidance it would be greatly appreciated (and get the Mrs off my back!) TIA

  2. None of those photos show an external filling loop. Will be very unlikely u will have one with the built in filling valve on the boiler.
I suspect the filling mechanism is faulty, have u ever got it to work? Hopefully it’s covered by warranty as it’s only 18 months old.

Thanks for the fast response pppmacca

I was afraid of that being a potential cause, this is our first time trying to get it pressured, was installed by previous owner.

Being installed in 2018 it’s unfortunately 3 years old now so I think a warranty is out of the window :(

  4. A lot of boilers have 5,7 or 10 year warranty’s now, depends on if they’ve been serviced each year, and installed correctly, and registered etc.

If it does need changing it is a fairly easy job,but a bit fiddly. I think from memory that to change it, u have to take off the case so you will probably need a boiler engineer to do it.

How long did you hold the valve open? It might take a while to see the pressure gauge move.

  6. True, they aren’t the quickest those valves and if a biggish system may take a little while

And if the system is already pressurised (just a bit low) and you don’t have great mains pressure you wouldn’t hear water going in.

Interesting.. admittedly I was going off a YouTube tutorial which you could hear the water running through and the needle swiftly rising into the green.. and I panicked when mine wasn’t doing any of that haha!

The needle was at 0 initially but after my efforts last night is has risen to 0.5 bar.. I’ve turned the boiler off again to cool down and will try again (with more patience) tonight!

Thanks for all your help chaps!

You can top up the pressure without having to wait for the system to cool.

  10. If probs in the future
