What the plug rules with a gift.

Plug1.jpg "The distance from any part of the line and neutral pins to the periphery of the plug base must be not less than 9.5 mm." I measure 4.3 mm. There is no fuse in the plug, but there is one in the appliance, if she had paid money for the Fruit Dryer it would have been returned, think came from Temu.

I think plug in then switch on, while evaluating, if any good change the plug. But so blatantly non-compliant, clearly could not sell them like that.

Not saying it is correct, but if you measure from the first part of the metal, diagonally to the edge of the plug base, how far is that? With 8.5mm of insulation and 4.3mm horizontally, technically it is 9.5mm from pin metal to edge of plug.

There are a lot of devices without fuses at the plug - all of the wall wart power supplies as a start - does having a fully wired integral cable and plug remove the requirement for an in-plug fuse? My reading is that it does not but how do the others get approval?

These plugs have been coming out of China since 1980, no fuse and insufficient width either side of the pins for compliance. Couple this with a very thin flex and you have a fire in the making. I have brought things from E Bay with such plugs and requested a return, often the seller does not have return facilities so often a huge discount is offered or you get a refund and keep it. Request a return.

These junk leads often claim to be 0.75 or 1.0mm² but often isn't the case. I found some desk extension blocks from Amazon claiming to be 1.0mm² but an earth bond suggested something different, cut the plug off to find three or four hair thin strands of copper.
