What would you make a well "roof" of? It's a V roof, each 8ftx4ft (approx)

We get our water from a well in the garden. It's roof never lasts long. Birds take snails up on to it and peck at them - puncturing any waterproofing covering material. Damaging the surface of plywood, even marine ply. So the current covering has dozens of little repair patches.

So, any suggestions for some flat roof material, 8x4, that will survive lots of sun (hopefully), mist, low cloud and drizzle (usually) - plus take birds' culinary pursuits? And what to paint/coat it with?

Or, am I going about this the wrong way and we need to use slates/tiles on a more elaborate structure?

Any suggestions will be much appreciated!

To make it last longer and look nicer, also give a bit of a feature make it a dual pitched roof (up and over, gable style roof) and slate it.

I may end up with doing that - it already is a "gable" roof - as in two panels that meet at an angle in an inverted v. Thanks for the reply. The V is quite shallow though. Which explains why the birds don't just slide off...
