    Hi Guys,

I'm retired but I want to get back to work.

I have been offered iregular work as a labourer for a paver/fencer/gardener at £50 a day.
Sounds a bit stingy to me but I've no idea of the going rate for this type of hard work.

    What do you guys think?

How many hours are you expected to work for 50.

Minimum wages is 6.70hr, so 8 hrs would be 53.60.

Most are only on 60 to 70 down here in the south, just north of London, to many cheap imports around!!!!!

Down here in Wales it is around £50 but depends on method of payment ;)

  4. You can always consider a job as a 'skilled labourer' depending on your skills.

It might offer more satisfaction... and more money.

Yet you can earn £60 per day in a call centre, in the warm?

    Amazed at that!

What job were you doing before you retired? What was your salary in your previous job? Are you coming out of retirement because you need the money or your bored doing nothing?

I pay £8 an hour for non skilled garden labourers. We shouldn't perpetuate the culture of low wages.

OK, I tried a day. OMG. 2 massive packs of 2X2 paving slabs.
Never worked so hard in my life.
8 hours flat out, wheelbarrowing slabs with some mixing
    For £50.
Everyone I spoke to reckons I'm being exploited and reckon £100 would be suitable for that amount of hard work!
Did it for 2 days and won't be going back.
Looks like office work for me, or driving

  10. Good to have a catch-up!

Yep - don't blame you at all...

Good luck with finding a better job :)

According to the telly the other day:

£5 an hour if you're Polish

£2.50 an hour if you're Romanian

really desperate people will work a day in exchange for a fried chicken meal.

No wonder that the country's in such a mess then is it really with these unskilled Romanian farmers pretending to be any trade

Where I am, even the local council advertised a job with "ability to speak Polish and advantage" to be a recycling sorter in their depot.
