Where skirting meets wall stringer

Hi
I am just wondering what you would do to finish this area off.
The previous ogee skirting was taller and sat directly under the string that was cut back to allow this.
I was thinking of a mitred end cap on the skirting and then tack on a flush piece of ply to the string.

I ask because there is always someone who has a better idea, then you think to yourself, why didn't I think of that lol.
I would like to keep the skirting in place but I can add or cut away if necessary.
