I am about to line a workshop in 12mm hardwood ply. My question is which type of screw is best for this the one with a screw thread all the way up the shank or the ones with only half the length threaded please? For the rest of the spec I am guessing 5 x 50mm countersunk. Any other recommendation really welcome oh forgot to mention I am insulating behind the boards so good depth of battens to screw into
In theory the non threaded shank of the screw is there to prevent the item being fixed from winding itself off the thing its being fixed to and leaving a gap between them. The correct way would be to drill a clearance hole in the top surface, countersink, drill a pilot hole into the bottom surface, and then screw them together....in practice you can use what you like and just wack them in with a drill driver and Bury the heads into the ply. 40 mm screws would be fine for fixing ply
"in practice you can use what you like and just wack them in with a drill driver and Bury the heads into the ply." Yep...don't overthink it
Thanks for quick reply. My wife was getting tired holding the board in place. (only joking) LOL. I have read endless websites entitled “screws explained” or similar and none of then ever tackle this question. So once again thanks
